UPCYCLE HOODIE INTO A MAKE-UP BAG

Today is international kissing day! The make-up bag that I'm showing you today is the perfect bag to keep all your kiss-proof lipsticks... and even the ones not so kiss-proof....

If you're anything like me and love make up, you're in the right place. I adore make-up and I'm so excited to show you how easy you can create your own make up bag from your preloved clothes.

This makeup bag used to be a hoodie in its former life! A grey hoodie with blue sleeves. My youngest son, Marcel, used to wear it. As you can see, I've been cutting pieces of that hoodie before....

I used parts of the hoodie before to cut out squares for a grey sweater with Elvis application. You can find a tutorial for that sweather here Now it was time for me to use the hoodie again, and this time I wanted to upcycle the hoodie into a make-up bag.

You can easily make the pattern for this makeup bag;

You need a regular A4 sheet of paper.

Draw squares 3 cm (1,2 ins) in each corner of the paper.

Cut out the corners.

Fold the paper in the middle.

Draw squares at the fold and cut out.

When you unfold the paper, you'll have two 6x3 cm

(2,4 x 1,2 ins) squares in the centre, one on each side.

I used the sleeves from the hoodie for this make-up bag.

Pin the pattern to your fabric and cut out. Seam allowance is included. Zig zag or overlock all the edges.

It is excellent to use jogging/sweater fabric for your make up bag as it is quite solid. If you sew the toiletry bag in a thinner fabric, for example a t-shirt fabric, you should definitely use some kind of interlining, otherwise it will be too sloppy.

If you're making your make up bag from a preloved hoodie, it's a great idea to re-use the original zipper.

Pin the zipper in the middle of your makeup bag and sew with zigzag stitches close to the edge of the zipper.

Once the zipper is attached to the fabric, it's time to cut the opening. First, cut a slit down the centre of the fabric, then carefully trim the corners and edges up to the stitching, taking care not to cut through the seams.

Now it's time to sew the long and short sides together on the makeup bag. Use 1 cm / 3/8" seam allowance.

Fold the small corners and pin them together so the seams match. Sew all four corners using 1 cm (0.4 ins) seam allowance.

Turn it right side out - you're done!
